
Alabama Claims Third Team Title on the Season, Griz Earns First Medalist Honor at the Linger Longer Invitational

The Crimson Tide has claimed the Linger Longer team title for a second consecutive year
GREENSBORO, Ga. – For the second time in as many years, the No. 16 Alabama men's golf team has claimed the team championship with a Crimson Tide golfer earning medalist honors at the Linger Longer Invitational. Alabama won its third team championship of the year Tuesday, closing the event in convincing fashion with 40-under par 824 (267-272-285), while Jonathan Griz earned his first career medalist honor with a 13-under par 203 (62-67-74).
Not only did Griz claim the top spot in the field, but UA golfers finished in the top three spots led by Griz winnng his first career collegiate individual title. JP Cave finished runner-up at 10-under par 206 (67-70-69) with Canon Claycomb rounding out the top three in third at 9-under 207 (70-67-70).
In addition to claiming the Linger Longer Invitational, the Tide has also won championships in each of its final two tournaments in the fall season, the Hamptons Intercollegiate and the Steelwood Collegiate.

"I am just really proud of this team. They continue to grow and respond to challenges in from of them. I am very excited for (Jonathan) Griz. He has worked so hard to has continued to believe in the plan we have for him. To have our guys finish 1-2-3 in the induvial standings is just a dominant performance."
Individual Highlights
- For the first time this season, all five starters finished the tournament at or under par
- Jonathan Griz becomes the third different Alabama golfer to earn medalist honors this season, joining JP Cave (MartinFed Invite and Nick Dunlap (SEC Match Play)
- Griz led the field in total birdies (18)
- JP Cave earned his first career runner-up finish with his 10-under par 206, which is the second-best tournament result of his career (first place finish at MartinFed Invite)
- Cave led the field in par 4 scoring with a collective average score of 3.73 (-8)
- Canon Claycomb earns his second consecutive top-three result in as many tournaments played this spring
- Thomas Ponder finished tied for 22nd overall with a 54-hole total of 2-under par 214 (69-73-72)
- Jones Free rounded out the starting five as he tied for 31st overall with an even par 216 (69-68-79)
- Competing as an individual, Austin Coggin finished with a tournament total of 2-under 214 (71-72-71) to finish tied for 22nd overall
Team Highlights
- Alabama finished at 40-under par, 11 shots better than No. 13 Virginia (-29)
- No. 27 Georgia (-26) is in third, with No. 14 Georgia Tech (-18) and No. 47 UNC Greensboro (-13) and rounding out the top five teams
- Those were the only five teams in the 14-team field to finish under par
- The Tide led the field in total birdies (70), par 3 scoring (2.88, -7) and par 4 scoring (3.91, -13)
