
Men’s Golf Returns to Action at the Linger Longer Invitational

The Crimson Tide will tee off in the three-day event Sunday morning
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 16 Alabama men's golf team is back in action this weekend when it competes at the 2024 Linger Longer Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State University. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played Sunday through Tuesday at the par 72, 7,436-yard Great Waters Golf Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga.
The Crimson Tide will look to defend its title after winning the 2023 event with a team score of 14-under par 850, with Nick Dunlap claiming medalist honors at 10-under par 206.
The Lineup
- The Crimson Tide's lineup for the event will be the same as last week's runner-up finish at The Hayt, and features Thomas Ponder, Canon Claycomb, Jones Free, Jonathan Griz and JP Cave
- Additionally, Austin Coggin will compete in the event as an individual
- Claycomb headlines the Tide after finishing runner-up at The Hayt with a 54-hole total of 2-under par 214, his first top five finish of the season and the fifth of his career
- Both Claycomb (71.89) and Ponder (71.41) headline the Tide's starting five with both averaging below 72.00 strokes per round and each coming off a top-five finish (Ponder finished in fourth at the Watersound Invitational)
- Free makes his second consecutive start and third start in the Tide's lineup this season after competing as an individual in three other events
- Jones is coming off a top-20 finish at The Hayt, and is third on the team in scoring average at 72.39
- Griz (72.47) and Cave (73.12) round out the starting lineup for the event
- Coggin will compete in his sixth tournament for the Tide on the year, and will make his third appearance as an individual
Tournament Preview
- Alabama will tee off the opening round at 8:15 a.m. CT (9:15 a.m. ET) off Hole No. 10 and is paired alongside Kennesaw State and Georgia Tech
- The 14-team field features five teams ranked inside the top 65 in the most recent Spikemark Golf Rankings including No. 14 Georgia Tech, No. 16 Alabama and No. 27 Georgia, No. 47 UNC Greensboro, No. 56 Clemson and No. 61 Charlotte
- Other participating teams include Augusta, Georgia State, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Louisiana Tech, Mercer and Wofford
