Claycomb Tied for First, Alabama Tied for Second after 36 Holes at The Hayt

The Crimson Tide enters Monday’s final round three strokes back of the top spot
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The No. 21 Alabama men's golf team remains in the hunt for its first team title of the spring season after 36 holes played at The Hayt. Entering Monday's third and final round, the Crimson Tide is in second place overall and just three shots back with a team total of 1-under par 575 (282-294).
Alabama continues to be led by Canon Claycomb, who owns a share of the overall lead with a 36-hole score of 4-under 140 (69-71). The Tide's Jonathan Griz (T9th, -1) and Jones Free (T12th, E) are also among the top-15 golfers to help lead the way.
The final round of The Hayt, hosted by North Florida, will take place Monday on the par 72, 6,966-yard Sawgrass Country Club. Live stats can be found on Golfstat.com.
Individual Results
- Canon Claycomb's round of 71 Sunday marked his 10th round of par or better which leads the team
- Claycomb is tied with Ohio State's Adam Wallin (-4) for the top spot entering the final 18 holes
- He is also currently tied for second in the field on par 5 holes (4.25, -6)
- Jonathan Griz is in a tie for ninth after he finished the second round at 1-over par 73
- Griz, who leads team in birdies (8), has a two-day score of 1-under 143 (70-73)
- Jones Free followed his 2-under par opening round with a 2-over 74 and is in a tie for 12th at even par entering round three
- Thomas Ponder and JP Cave are tied for 23rd, giving UA five individuals among the top 25
- Ponder, who is tied for tournament lead in par 3 scoring (2.88, -1), and Cave have carded identical scores of 4-over par 148 (73-75)
- Austin Coggin, who is playing as an individual, is in a tie for 59th with a 154 (78-76)
Team Results
- Top-ranked North Carolina (-4) had the round of the day at 5-under par and jumped to the top of the leaderboard alongside the Crimson Tide
- No. 26 Ohio State (-1) is tied with Alabama for second as the trio are the only squads in the 14-team field to boast sub-par scores
- No. 13 Virginia (+7) is in fourth with Louisville (+15) rounding out the top five teams
- The tournament field features nine teams ranked among the top-60 in the most recent Spikemark Golf Rankings
