On top of the clocking the fastest time globally, McRae’s 45.02 time is a new personal best and is also the NCAA front-running time
Albuquerque, N.M. – On the final day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, Alabama track and field's Khaleb McRae secured a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash via a national-leading, world-leading and new personal-best time of 45.02.
With his 5.40-meter (17-8.50) mark, Louis Martinez broke the school record in the men's pole vault to claim fourth in the event, giving him a new personal-best.
In total, Alabama would claim six event titles, 14 top-10 finishes and an event sweep while in Albuquerque, N.M., in addition to five different athletes adjusting UA's all-time top-10 lists.
HEAD COACH DAN WATERS
"What a day for Khaleb McRae. Posting the fastest time in the world this year in the 400 is an amazing feat and I couldn't be prouder of the work he's put in with Coach (Blaine) Wiley. Collectively, it was another strong weekend for the Tide with a number of student-athletes setting PRs. I also want to commend Louis (Martinez) for breaking our school's record in pole vault - another great individual performance from this weekend. At the midway point of the season, though, it's important we continue our momentum as we start approaching championship season."
CRIMSON TIDE TOP FINISHES
- The women's shot put duo of Mye'Joi Williams (16.83m | 55-2.75) and Amani Heaven (16.52m | 54-2.50) gave the Crimson Tide a pair of top-five finishes with a second-and fifth-place finish, respectively
- Louis Martinez would give Alabama a top-five finish (fourth | 5.40m | 17-8.50) in the men's pole vault
- Martinez now holds the school record via his personal-record-setting performance
- Over on the track, Khaleb McRae would give UA a first-place finish after clocking a 45.02 in the men's 400-meter dash, with Hasani Barr adding an additional top-10 finish (seventh | 47.06)
- McRae's time is a new PR and good for second all-time in program history
UP NEXT
- Alabama will split up next weekend, having representation at both the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C., as well as the BU Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass.
