
Alabama Has Strong Showing on Fourth Day of SEC Championships

The Crimson Tide had four swimmers reach the A finals with a second consecutive podium finish from Charlie Hawke highlighting the day
AUBURN, Ala. – The Alabama swimming and diving team had four swimmers reach the A finals as Charlie Hawke's silver medal in the 200 freestyle and Gaby Van Brunt's electrifying swim in the 100 butterfly highlighted the fourth night of the Southeastern Conference Championships.
With his second all-time personal-best swim in the 200 freestyle, Hawke captured his second podium finish of the meet, earning a silver medal with a 1:31.03.
Gaby Van Brunt moved to second on UA's 100 butterfly all-time top-10 list, capturing a blistering 51.68 to finish fourth overall at the meet. The career-best time was the second of the day for Van Brunt, who swam a 52.06 during the morning session to earn her spot in the top heat.
After swimming a career-best time of 4:12.93 during the preliminary session, Sydney Sanders bettered her time in the finals of the 400 individual medley, recording a 4:12.66 for sixth-place overall. Sanders' time ranks eighth all-time in program history as she dropped nearly four seconds off her career-best time coming into the meet.
Kaique Alves reached the A final of the 200 freestyle to highlight the event for the Crimson Tide alongside Hawke. With a time of 1:33.14, Alves finished eighth overall to give UA two swimmers in the championship heat.
After the fourth day of competition, the Crimson Tide is in seventh place on both sides of the meet with the women's team tallying 324.5 points while the men's team holds 254 points.
The Meet
- UA had two swimmers reach the top heat of the 200 freestyle as Hawke recorded a time of 1:31.03 to finish second in the event, while Alves posted a time of 1:33.14 to finish eighth
- Sanders dropped over four seconds during her preliminary swim to clock a 4:12.93 time in the 400 IM and earn a spot in the A Final
- Van Brunt raced to the wall during the morning session to capture the third-fastest 100 butterfly time (52.06) in program history
- She would top the performance in the finals to move to second all-time at Alabama with a 51.68
- Ryleigh Rodgers advanced to the finals in her second event, earning a spot in the B finals of the 1m dive
- Rodgers posted a score of 247.30 to finish 15th in the event, while Courtney Russo's 241.60 earned her an 18th-place finish
- Kailyn Winter raced to the wall to clock a career-best 52.79, earning a 20th-place finish and capturing the ninth-fastest time in program history
- The Crimson Tide had three swimmers advance to the finals in the 100 butterfly as Bernardo Bondra de Almeida earned a spot in the B final, while Zarek Wilson and Tim Korstanje reached the C final
- Bondra de Almedia swam a time of 46.41 to finish 15th overall while Wilson's 46.67 and Korstanje's 46.79 placed the duo 22nd and 23rd, respectively

- Prelims for the 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke will begin at 9:30 a.m. CT while the men's platform begins at 11:30 on Friday
