No. 19 Alabama Faces Rice in Opening Round of Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic

The Crimson Tide will face three teams over the two-day event in Montgomery, Ala.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– The No. 19 Alabama men's tennis team will open the Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic on Friday against Rice. The Crimson Tide (8-4) enters the tournament as the top seed and is coming off an upset victory over then-No. 5 Southern California.

The Tournament
- The Crimson Tide will face three opponents over two days as UA opens the Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic on Friday against Rice
- Rice enters the match ranked 64th nationally and holds a 5-4 overall record
- In addition to the 19th-ranked Crimson Tide and No. 64 Rice, the tournament will also feature No. 21 Michigan State, No. 27 Middle Tennessee, No. 31 Princeton, No. 47 Old Dominion, No. 48 Auburn and No. 51 Boise State
- Teams will play one full match and doubles of the second match on Friday, before returning to the courts on Saturday to conclude singles play before facing a third opponent
- Alabama last won the tournament in 2016 with a victory over Princeton

- UA enters the tournament with momentum after downing the then-No. 5 team in the country, Southern California at the ITA National Indoor Championships
- The match was one of three against a top-10 ranked opponent as the Tide also faced the No. 1 team in the country, Ohio State (L, 4-2) and No. 10 Columbia (L, 4-0) in the national event
- Filip Planinsek paced the Tide, securing a pair of singles and doubles wins which earned him Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors
- His performance on the court has earned him a national ranking of No. 30 in singles and No. 35 in doubles alongside teammate Andrii Zimnokh
- Enzo Aguiard enters as the No. 57 nationally ranked singles player for his this season
