SEC Champs!
Congratulations to women's cross country for winning the SEC championship last week, as well as Doris Lemngole for taking home top individual honors in the race. Doris' time of 18:20.3 set the course record en route to helping her team win its fourth overall title in program history and second in last three years. For her efforts, she was also named National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Our men's team finished second in its championship race for the program's third consecutive top-two finish at the conference meet.
Next up are the NCAA Regional Championships, which take place Friday, November 15 in Tallahassee, Fla.
Football Returns from Bye Week
Big game in Baton Rouge this week as our football team returns from the bye week to take on LSU on the road Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT. Those unable to be in attendance can catch the game on ABC.
Basketball Season Underway
We enjoyed a stellar opening night of basketball on Monday with a victorious doubleheader in Coleman Coliseum where both of our teams eclipsed the century mark in scoring. Our women's team opened the night by topping New Orleans, 115-53, with veterans Aaliyah Nye and Sarah Ashlee Barker combining for 48 points. The men then dropped 110 in their win over UNC Ashville, led by Mark Sears, who had his 50th career 20-point game.
The women are back in action tonight, playing at Alabama A&M with a 7:30 p.m. CT start. They then return home for three-straight games with Troy on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT, Norfolk State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT and Alcorn State next Thursday at 6 p.m. CT.
The men will play their next two at home, welcoming back former Tide assistant Bryan Hodgson and the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Friday at 7 p.m. CT before hosting McNeese State on Monday at 6 p.m. CT.
Reminder to those attending men's home games to review the updated parking and shuttle service information. Please note that the 2nd Ave. bridge is only accessible to Coleman Coliseum parking pass holders.
Swimming and Diving Hosts LSU and Florida State
Our swimming and diving teams will hold their first home meet of the season as LSU and Florida State come to town on Friday. The meet is scheduled for an 11 a.m. CT start at the Alabama Aquatic Center.

Baseball's fall season will wrap up Saturday with an exhibition matchup against Clemson, beginning at noon CT at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Admission is free.
Men's Tennis Competes at ITA Sectionals
New to the tennis schedule this season are the singles and doubles national championships moving to the fall. With that, the ITA Sectional Championships are currently taking place in Tallahassee, Fla., which has a draw of 32 in singles and 16 teams in doubles. Six singles players and three doubles teams will qualify from the Sectionals for the NCAA championships, which are set to take place November 19-24 in Waco, Texas.
Volleyball Continues Road Swing this Weekend
Our volleyball team will close out its four-match road swing Sunday with a trip to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators at noon CT. We then wrap up the regular season with five consecutive home matches, beginning with Mississippi State on Friday, November 15 at 6 p.m. CT.
Bama Salute Military Appreciation Week
In recognition of Veterans Day, our department has partnered with the UA Office of Veterans and Military Affairs to plan several military-themed activations in honor of the men and women who have served our country. We are incredibly grateful to all the service men and women who have done so much to protect our country and look forward to incorporating and recognizing them at our upcoming events.
University Spotlight
The West Alabama Food Bank is near and dear to Regina and me, so I was pleased to read about the new collaboration between it and UA's Office of Student Care, aiming to provide increased access to fresh and nutritional food for students with emergency needs. An open house event taking place at the BamaCares Pantry will take place on Friday, November 8 from 10 a.m. to noon where visitors can tour the space and learn more about the program.
