PENSACOLA, Fla. –– The Alabama soccer team (10-5-5) downed Vanderbilt (9-3-6) in a 2-1 victory in the opening round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament Sunday.
An early goal by Nadia Ramadan in the ninth minute of action gave Alabama an early lead. Zivana Labovic would add to the Tide's score off a header in the 18th minute to give UA a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime. Vanderbilt found its lone goal from Ella Eggleston in the 77th minute.
From Head Coach Wes Hart
"Really proud of our team tonight. We knew it was going to be a very difficult game, but I thought our girls came out and established ourselves as the aggressors from the opening whistle. We've shown all year that we can compete with the best teams in the league, just hadn't closed games out. Tonight we did. We will enjoy this win tonight and then get ready for another tough game on Tuesday versus South Carolina."
