Gianna Paul paced a 21-shot performance by the Crimson Tide, tallying the game-winning goal over the Aggies
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– A ball played over the top to Alabama soccer's Gianna Paul was the difference maker in a 1-0 victory against Texas A&M on Sunday as the Crimson Tide dominated the offensive side of the ball.
Alabama tallied an impressive 21 shots in the game, firing off 17 attempts in the second half. Paul's goal would come in the 21st minute off a pass from Nadia Ramadan to move the Tide to 8-3-5 on the year and 1-1-5 in Southeastern Conference play. Texas A&M fell to 8-7 overall and 3-4 in league action.
Ellie Lanyi tallied UA's first shut out in league play, making five saves for the clean sheet.
From Head Coach Wes Hart
"Super proud of the team for their fight, grit and persistence. It's been a tough start to the SEC season, five ties out of six games. It would be easy to sit around and feel sorry for ourselves, but I thought the girls put that behind us and focused on today's game. It looked like a team that was hungry for three points.
"We talked at halftime about not trying to just bleed the clock out, not trying to just bunker in and defend. Forty-five minutes against a quality opponent like that is too much time. So our message to the group was go out and keep pressing for that next goal. Even though we didn't get the goal, we created some of our best chances and played some of our best soccer of the season. I'm really, really proud of how they executed the game plan."
