Alabama Falls 3-1 in Road Match Against South Carolina

Nedya Sawan notched the team’s lone goal off a first-half penalty kick
COLUMBIA, S.C. –– The Alabama soccer team fell 3-1 in a road match against South Carolina on Friday. The loss would be just the second in Southeastern Conference play as Alabama moved to 8-4-5 overall and 1-2-5 in league play.
Nedya Sawan paced the Tide, converting a penalty kick with just over a minute remaining in the first half. The Gamecocks, however, would see a brace from Katie Shea Collins, who netted goals in the 26th and 60th minute of action. Cuyler Zulauf added a final goal for South Carolina in the 76th minute.
South Carolina would improve to 7-1-6 on the season and 4-1-3 in conference play with the win.

"Disappointed with the outcome tonight, but I was very pleased with the fight and effort, particularly in the second half. I thought we were the aggressor in the second half, and they scored their second goal against the run of play. We created four or five very good looks, but they just didn't fall tonight.
"Can't dwell on this. Got to get ready for Florida on Thursday in a must win game for us at home."

- It was also her second converted penalty kick in as many attempts as her shot tied the game at 1-1
- Collins netted South Carolina's first two goals in the match, including the game-winner, finding the back of the net in the 26th and 60th minute
- Zulauf would add a goal before the final whistle, finding the back of the net in the 76thminute
- In addition to being just the second loss in conference play, the result is the first loss on the road against an SEC opponent
- Ellie Lanyi made three saves in the match while South Carolina's Christina Tsaousis made five stops
