OKLAHOMA CITY – Alabama rowing opened its fall season Saturday at the Head of the Oklahoma, gathering six top-five finishes which included a first-place finish in the Collegiate 4+ Grand Final.
The Crimson Tide started the full day of racing with five pairs rolling out in the Collegiate 2-. Three UA boats would finish in the top 10, with two of those clocking a top-five time.
In the afternoon, Alabama would return to the water with two crews each in the Collegiate 4+ and Collegiate 8+. Both Crimson Tide boats would clock top-12 times before featuring a third-place finish in the Collegiate 8+ race.
Before the day was over, Alabama would have three final races under the lights. In the Collegiate 4+ 500-meter Grand Final, the Tide finished first. Alabama would also log a pair of second-place finishes in the Collegiate 8+ 500-meter Petite and Grand Final.
Head Coach Glenn Putyrae Said
"It was great to get our crews out and racing. We enjoy the opportunity to race, and the regatta organizers set up a schedule that allowed us to get down the course multiple times. One of our goals this year is to get better every time we get on the water, and our crews met that goal today. This time of year it's not so much where we are today, but whether we are progressing toward May."
