The Crimson Tide will face off against Louisville and Miami on Saturday morning
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama rowing program is set to welcome Louisville and Miami for the Head of the Black Warrior River on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. CT.
The head race portion of the morning kicks off with the Collegiate Varsity 4s at 9 a.m., followed by the Varsity 2s at 9:10 a.m. and the Novice 8+ crews taking off at 9:25 a.m. Following an hour break, a number of crews from each school will return to the water for a series of three 1,500-meter exhibition pieces.
The first exhibition group will feature 1V8+ and 2V8+ boats (11 a.m. | 11:20 a.m. | 11:40 a.m.) with two boats each from Alabama, Louisville and Miami. The second group will be the 3V8+ and 4V8+ crews, including two Alabama boats and one from Miami (11:05 a.m. | 11:25 a.m. | 11:45 a.m.). The third and final series of exhibition pieces will feature the Novice 8+ and Varsity 4+ groups, which will have three Alabama crews, one Louisville boat, as well as a Miami V4+ crew.
The regatta is the second and final fall competition for the Crimson Tide, who previously earned six top-five finishes at the Head of the Oklahoma on Sept. 30. Alabama will kick off the spring portion of its schedule on Saturday, March 2, at home against Eastern Michigan.
Saturday's race will also serve as the team's annual Power of Pink event, an Alabama Athletics initiative started by former UA gymnastics coach Sarah Patterson in 2004 that helps raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer.
