Men’s Cross Country Victorious at Memphis Twilight, Women Finish Second

The Crimson Tide men won with 60 points while the women took second with 84 points
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 23 Alabama men's cross country team opened the season with a meet win under the lights on Saturday night, while the No. 13 women's squad finished second at the Memphis Twilight.
The UA women tallied 84 points to claim the second-place spot, led by Keaton Morrison, who clocked a ninth-place, 18:53.09 finish over the 5,000-meter course. The men would close the season-opening meet with a 60-point performance to claim the meet win.
Head Coach Dan Waters Said
"Overall, it was a very successful day for both teams. To have our women finish second and our men to close us out with the win is a very nice way to open the season. Everyone in our lineup had the chance to go out and compete. While it's a great place for us to start, it's even more important that we continue to build meet by meet so that we're ready for the postseason in a couple months."
Crimson Tide Top Finishes
- Keaton Morrison (ninth), Leah Kleekamp (10th) and Farrah Frith (11th) all clocked top-15 finishes en route to the team's second-place finish of 84 points
- Autumn Headrick (20th) and Elizaeth Robertson (34th) rounded out the Crimson Tide's scoring five
- Ethan Lemons (sixth), Jackson Harris (seventh) and Arthur Graham (ninth) all secured top-10 finishes to help propel the Tide to its first-place, team finish
- Will Douglas (16th) and Charlie Rogers (22nd) rounded out Alabama's scoring five
Up Next for the Crimson Tide
- The Crimson Tide will take a week off before embarking on its shortest road trip of the entire 2023 campaign when it travels to Huntsville, Ala., for the North Alabama Showcase on Friday, Sept. 15
- The only other in-state meet for Alabama will take place Friday, Oct. 13, hosting the Crimson Classic
