HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama cross country's Doris Lemngole opened her crimson and white career with a first-place, individual title in the women's 5k race after recording a blistering time of 16:12.10 at the Southern Showcase.
The No. 23 UA men's cross country team opened the morning with a third-place overall finish, while the No. 13 women's squad ended the day with a fourth-place team finish.
The Crimson Tide men tallied 110 points to claim the top-three spot, led by Jacob Harris who posted an 11th-place finish over the 8,000-meter course. Lemngole would lead the women to a fourth-place, 108-point finish to close the morning of racing.
Head Coach Dan Waters Said
"There were some really great things that happened today, obviously, like having Doris win her first collegiate race. On our women's side, there were a lot of really good performances, as well as on our men's side. Carson [Burian] and Hudson [Hurst], those guys did a very good job today. We had a lot of freshmen and transfers also do some good things so overall, I'm pleased with what I saw. We have pieces to plug in and we still have some work to do, but it's a long season. Everything's in front of us, and that's one of the biggest positives to take away. We can continue to get better as the weeks go on."
"We knew Doris was good coming in. Coach Nick [Stenuf] and the whole staff has done a really good job making sure she's happy, healthy and ready to compete for us in her freshman campaign. I'm proud of her performance today."
