Alabama Has Competitive Start on Day One at the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic

The Crimson Tide won four of six doubles matches and five of seven singles matches on the opening day of the tournament
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Alabama women's tennis team collected a three doubles wins and five singles victories on opening day of the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic. The Crimson Tide won eight of the day's 11 matches with five of those coming from singles matches.
In the opening round of doubles, veterans Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser picked up their 30th career win and first of the season as a doubles duo while Margaux Maquet and Petra Sedlackova won their first doubles match as a team. Priya Nelson earned her first collegiate win in singles.
The Competition
- Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser defeated Irina Cantos Siemers and Alessia Cau of Ohio State, 8-5, to earn the first win of the year for the Tide
- Margaux Maquet and Petra Sedlackova followed shortly after with an 8-5 victory to collect their first doubles match win as a pair before winning their second doubles match, 8-3
- During singles, Priya Nelson won her first career match against Macy Hitchcock of Furman, 7-5, 6-1
- Ansley Cheshire battled against Aubrey Nisbet of Wake Forest to come-from-behind and win in three sets, 0-6, 6-2, 7-5
- Additionally, the Tide saw wins from Anna Parkhomenko (6-3, 6-0), Priya Nelson (7-5, 6-1) and Sydney Orefice (6-0, 6-2)
