The Rebels scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn the walk-off win
OXFORD, Miss. – Alabama softball could not complete the sweep in Sunday's series finale against Ole Miss, as the Rebels scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the Crimson Tide, 5-4, in walk-off fashion.
Alabama (38-17, 14-10 SEC) took the first lead of the game on a second-inning RBI single from Kali Heivilin before Ole Miss (29-25, 8-16 SEC) quickly tied it up in the bottom half with a Savana Sikes solo home run. In the top of the fourth, a leadoff double and wild pitch put Kenleigh Cahalan at third base before a groundout to the right side allowed her to score and give the Crimson Tide back the lead. Two batters later, Heivilin made it a 3-1 lead with a solo home run. A Larissa Preuitt RBI single in the fifth made it 4-1 and it remained a three-run game heading to the bottom of the seventh.
Back-to-back solo home runs from the Rebels to lead off the home half of the seventh quickly made it a one-run game as Montana Fouts (22-9) entered to try and close out the game. A groundout put the first out on the board before a bunt single and a failed forceout attempt at second put two on base. A single up the middle drove in the game-tying run from second before a walk-off double in the gap brought home the game winner to complete the comeback for the Rebels.
At the plate, Preuitt continued her hot weekend with a 3-for-4 day with an RBI to push her weekend line to 8-for-11 (.727) with three doubles and three RBIs. Heivilin was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, with the fourth-inning solo shot as her sixth home run of the season.
