Alabama Track and Field Travels to the Bayou for Final Regular-Season Meet

The Crimson Tide will make its first of two-straight trips to Baton Rouge, La., this weekend for the LSU Invitational
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama track and field teams will conclude their outdoor regular season Saturday in Baton Rouge, La., at the LSU Invitational. It will be the Crimson Tide's first of two-straight meets at LSU as the Tigers are also hosting this year's SEC Outdoor Championships, May 11-13.
The Crimson Tide will compete at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium with the women's hammer throw leading off the single-day meet at 10:30 a.m. CT Saturday morning.
The Alabama men's program currently sits at No. 4, nationally, in the USTFCCCA week five rankings while the women enter the bayou as the No. 13-ranked program.
The Meet
- Alabama's Taylor Gorum, Chelsea Igberaese and Samantha Kunza will kickstart the action in the women's hammer throw
- The trio currently holds the top-three marks on UA's all-time top-10 list
- The women are traveling 16 athletes to Baton Rouge, while the men's travel list is 28 strong
- In addition to host school and conference foe No. 5/5 LSU, No. 4/13 Alabama will face No. 1/3 Arkansas, No. 22/NR Baylor, No. 6/2 Florida, No. 12/8 Georgia, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and No. 3/17 Tennessee
Last Time Out
- During its lone home meet of the season, Alabama amassed eight event titles and 27 top-five finishes while competing at the Crimson Tide Invitational
- Gorum's school record in the women's hammer throw (65.84m | 216-0) marked the seventh time during the 2023 outdoor season that a UA record has fallen
- In his final home competition of his career, Bobby Colantonio Jr. won the men's hammer throw via a second-throw attempt of 69.26 meters (227-3)
- Chelsea Igberaese's PR in the women's discus (44.14m | 180-11) secured the event title and also moved her to No. 4 on Alabama's all-time top-10 list
- Jekovan Rhetta, Antonio Crisco, Clayton Elder and Jonathan Martin won the men's 4x100-meter relay (39.99)
- Na'Taja Ballard claimed the event win in the women's 400 meters (54.01)
- Alabama's Christian Edwards won the men's triple jump in his outdoor season debut (14.98m | 49-1.75)
- Cordè Long won the men's 400-meter hurdles (50.10), making it the third time this season that an Alabama student-athlete has claimed the event title
- Brady Barton secured a first-place finish in the men's 1,500-meter run (3:49.03)
- Chris Robinson, Long, Leander Forbes and Khaleb McRae (3:07.45) won the men's 4x400-meter relay
- Alabama also honored its 17 seniors in a Senior Day Recognition, while over 200 track and field alumni also returned to Tuscaloosa for the weekend's alumni festivities
