The Tide entered the sixth trailing by two before moving in front by a pair thanks to three home runs
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Alabama baseball used a three-homer sixth inning to pull ahead for good in a 6-4 win over Missouri on Friday night at Taylor Stadium. The Crimson Tide is now 27-12 on the season and 7-9 in Southeastern Conference play.
Friday's scoring began with one run apiece for both teams in the first. Missouri then took the lead with a two-run fifth before Alabama used a four-run sixth to pull in front for good. The sixth began with a solo home run from Dominic Tamez. He was immediately followed by Andrew Pinckney's solo shot to even things up at three. Then, with one down and a man on, Jaxson West hit his first career home run to put UA in front for good. Missouri added one in the sixth but was countered by a Tide run in the seventh for the 6-4 final.
Alabama totaled 11 hits on the night, five of which went for extra bases. Tamez led the offense with a 4-for-5 showing that included the homer, a double, one RBI and a team-high two runs scored. Colby Shelton added a double with the Pinckney and West rounding out the extra-base knocks. West also led the Tide in RBI with two on his home run.
The win went to Hagan Banks (1-0), who allowed one run on two hits with three strikeouts in 2.2 innings of relief. Banks was followed by Alton Davis II, with the freshman tossing a season-high 2.1 scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit while striking out three for his fourth save in as many chances. Alabama also received a solid starting effort from Luke Holman, who worked 4.0 innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"This was a great road win for our team. The energy was really great in the dugout. We threw the first punch. (Luke) Holman wasn't sharp early, but he managed the first inning and settled in. The relievers did a great job for us, (Hagan) Banks and (Alton) Davis II were outstanding out of the bullpen. And I really loved the way our offense responded in the sixth after playing some sloppy defense in the fifth."
