The Crimson Tide will return to action on Sunday to face Kentucky on the road
NASHVILLE, Tenn. –– The Alabama women's tennis team (10-8, 3-5 SEC) fell to Vanderbilt (10-8, 4-5 SEC), 4-0, on Friday at the Curry Tennis Pavilion.
Despite a dominant 6-1 performance from 34th-nationally ranked Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser on court one, Vanderbilt rallied to take wins on courts three and two, respectively, to clinch the doubles point. The Commodores added wins on courts six, one and four, respectively, in singles play to secure the team win.
The Match
- Vanderbilt captured the opening point with a 6-2 win on court three before following with a 6-3 victory on court two
- The 34th-nationally ranked doubles team of Bencheikh and Hiser highlighted the day with a dominant 6-1 victory on court one over Anna Ross and Holly Staff
- In singles, Ola Pitak was heading into the third set when the match was clinched
- Pitak captured a 6-3 victory in the opening round, before falling 6-1 in set two to No. 82 Bridget Stammel
- Hiser was leading in the second set 3-2 against Marcella Cruz on court five when the Commodores secured the deciding point
- Vanderbilt captured the overall win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court six, a 6-3, 6-2 victory on court one and a 6-1, 6-3 victory on court four
