Ola Pitak and Kasia Pitak led the Crimson Tide with the first win of the day in doubles
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ––The Alabama women's tennis team (9-7, 2-4 SEC) fought the No. 2 Texas A&M Aggies (18-1, 6-0 SEC) in a head-to-head battle on Friday at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. Despite UA winning the first match, Texas A&M would go on to record a 4-0 victory.
A contested battle for the doubles point set the tone for the day as Alabama recorded the first win with a victory from Ola Pitak and Kasia Pitak on court three. Texas A&M responded seconds later with a victory on court two, before emerging victorious from a 7-3 tiebreaker on court one for the opening point. The Aggies recorded three consecutive wins in singles play to take the overall match victory.
The Match
- Alabama recorded the first win of the day as Ola Pitak and Kasia Pitak downed the Texas A&M duo of Gianna Pielet and Jeanette Mireles 6-2 on court three
- Seconds later, Texas A&M evened the doubles action with a win on court two
- No. 34 Anne Marie Hiser and Loudmilla Bencheikh went head-to-head with No. 46 Jayci Goldsmith and Salma Ewing, but lost 7-3 in the tiebreak for the Aggies' first point of the day
- Singles action was highlighted by Petra Sedlackova and Hiser who both took wins in their opening sets
- Sedlackova fought her way to a 7-5 first-set victory on court three, but was trailing 1-4 when the match was clinched
- Hiser battled her way through a 7-6 (4) victory on court five, but was down 1-3 in set two at the conclusion on the day
- Texas A&M secured the victory with wins on courts four, six and two, respectively
