The Crimson Tide secured the doubles point in its second match against Tulsa as the two teams will continue play tomorrow at 8 a.m. CT

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team (5-3) dropped a 4-1 decision to Illinois (7-3) in the opening round of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Ala.

Alabama also played the first part of its second-round match against Tulsa. The Crimson Tide captured the doubles point as the two teams will finish the match with singles Saturday at 8 a.m. CT.

Due to a rain delay, singles matches were played first during the opening round of competition. If the match score was tied, 3-3, then doubles would be played to decide the match. The second round of competition was split between Friday and Saturday with doubles play taking place Friday night and singles action occurring Saturday.

Against No. 32 Illinois

The Fighting Illini recorded wins on courts one, two, five and six to secure the victory
Ola Pitak captured the lone point for Alabama on court three, going 6-4, 7-6 (6) against Megan Heuser
Anna Parkhomenko was in a three-set battle on court four when the match was clinched, rallying to take the second set at 7-5 and was leading 5-2 in the third
Anne Marie Hiser battled through three sets, but fell 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 on court six

Against Tulsa

Alabama will start with a 1-0 lead when singles action resumes Saturday at 8 a.m. CT
The Crimson Tide recorded wins on doubles courts one and three
Petra Sedlackova and Parkhomenko captured a 7-5 victory over Maria Berlanga and Lily Hutchings on court one
Kasia Pitak and Ola Pitak would top Amy Leather and Myroslava Zelenchuk, 7-5, on court three
