TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama gymnastics put on a show Friday night in Coleman Coliseum, giving Crimson Tide fans their first look at the 2023-24 squad at the Crimson and White preview meet, as the White team took home the victory.
Alabama showcased more than 30 routines in front of the Crimson Tide faithful. UA had a pair of gymnasts compete in the all-around – senior Shania Adams and sophomore Gabby Gladieux as 15-time All-American and super-senior Luisa Blanco competed on vault, balance beam and floor exercise. Juniors Corinne Bunagan and Lilly Hudson, senior Cameron Machado and sophomore Rachel Rybicki also competed in three events during the preview meet.
Additionally, all four newcomers, Chloe LaCoursiere, Gabby Ladanyi, Natalia Pawlak and Jamison Sears, made their debut inside Coleman Coliseum.
Head Coach Ashley Johnston Said
"What a great night. It was really fun to be back out there in the arena. Before we started, we talked with the team about what our goal was for the night. We wanted to get out there and adjust quickly to the equipment, the lighting – the differences from practice gym to arena. We also wanted to start learning how to build momentum and create momentum – knowing that there were going to be mistakes, there were going to be some things that didn't go exactly our way, but learning how to pivot that energy, and create and carry momentum throughout the entire event. And I'm really proud of our ladies for doing that tonight. A lot of them competed like veterans out there, whether they were freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors or super-seniors, they all carried themselves in a really composed way. We still need to clean up some form, work through some details, but overall, I'm really pleased at the level of trust that they had both in each other and in their training tonight."
