Lawson Selected as Butkus Award Semifinalist

The Crimson Tide’s signal-caller on defense is one of 12 linebackers named as a semifinalist
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama linebacker Deontae Lawson was named a semifinalist for the Butkus Award, the Butkus Foundation announced on Monday morning.
Lawson is one of 12 semifinalists for the Butkus which is presented each year to the top linebacker at both the collegiate and high school levels. The 2023 winner of the Butkus Award will be announced on or before Dec. 7.
Alabama has had four players take home the Butkus in program history, including Derrick Thomas (1988), Rolando McClain (2009), C.J. Mosley (2013) and Reuben Foster (2016).
Butkus Award Semifinalist
- The leader in the middle and signal-caller for the Crimson Tide's defensive unit
- Ranks second on Alabama in tackles with 52, including 3.5 for loss (-21 yards) and two sacks (-18 yards)
- Also contributed four quarterback hurries and a pair of pass breakups this season
