
Hawke Records Second Meet Record, Alabama Concludes Day Two of Tennessee Invite Strong

The Crimson Tide finished the day in third place in both the men’s and women’s competition
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 19/20 Alabama swimming and diving team concluded the second day of the Tennessee Invite with six top-three finishes, including a meet record from Charlie Hawke.
Hawke's 1:31.30 in the 200-yard freestyle was his second meet record in as many days after topping the mark in the 500-yard freestyle on Wednesday.
In addition to Hawke, Bernardo Bondra de Almeida (100 butterfly), Kaique Alves (200 freestyle) and Trey Sheils (100 breaststroke) earned second-place finishes, while Ella Menear (100 backstroke) and the men's 200 medley relay finished third.
The Crimson Tide held its third-place team ranking on both sides as the women tallied 417 points through 30 events and the men secured 469.
The Women's Meet
- The 200-yard medley relay team of Menear, Kasia Norman, Kailyn Winter and Diana Petkova reached the wall with a time of 1:38.25 for a fifth-place finish
- Winter swam a time of 52.97 in the 100-yard butterfly for a fifth-place finish, while Gaby Van Brunt finished eighth with a time of 53.13
- Courtney Russo cleared 250 points on the platform for the second time this season, posting a 250.30 for fifth place
- Sydney Sanders (4:17.16) and Laurel Blase (4:18.07) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the A final of the 400-yard individual medley, while Kate Christian (4:15.84) placed ninth
- Mackenzie Brandt's time of 1:47.70 earned her a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle
- Avery Wiseman and Petkova finished back-to-back in the 100-yard breaststroke as Wiseman recorded a 59.77 for fifth place and Petkova recorded a 1:00.07 for sixth place
- Menear swam a 52.67 for the third-fastest time in the 100-yard backstroke as Cadence Vincent swam a 52.83 for the fifth-fastest performance in the event
The Men's Meet
- The men's team was highlighted by a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard freestyle as Hawke swam a meet-record setting time of 1:31.30, fastest time nationally this season, while Alves recorded a time of 1:31.97 for second place
- Additionally, UA opened the men's competition with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with Tommy Hagar, Trey Sheils, de Almeida and Tim Korstanje recording a time of 1:25.78
- De Almeida powered his way to the wall to finish second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 46.12 as Zarek Wilson posted a time of 48.32 to finish eighth
- Tommy Hagar reached the wall with a 3:49.51 to place seventh in the 400-yard individual medley
- UA recorded a pair of top-five performances in the 100-yard breaststroke as Sheils went 52.74 for second place while Michael Deans went 53.40 for fourth place
- Additionally, Ethan Otten recorded a B standard time of 53.36 in the 100-yard breaststroke for the top time in the B final
- Eric Stelmar closed the night with the fourth-fastest time in the 100-yard backstroke, reaching the wall with a 47.18 as Brendan Conners finished sixth with a time of 48.44 and Jack Marcum finished eighth with a time of 48.76
- Joey Wachter won the B final of the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 47.67
