The honor is Downs’ second weekly accolade following the matchup at Mississippi State

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama safety Caleb Downs was selected as the Shaun Alexander Award Freshman of the Week, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Tuesday.

The honor is Downs' second of the week following his standout performance at Mississippi State last weekend. The Hoschton, Ga., native was also selected as the Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday morning.

Finished with a season-high 13 tackles as he led the Tide defense in production points in Starkville
Added his first career interception, returning the pick 11 yards
Currently leads Alabama in tackles with 40 stops on the season
