Former Alabama players make an impact in Week 5 of the NFL season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The National Football League concluded Week 5 of the regular season Monday evening. Below is a look at how former Alabama players performed on the gridiron last week.
Jalen Hurts played a key role in the Eagles' 23-14 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. The Philadelphia quarterback completed 25-of-38 passes for 303 yards and a touchdown while also rushing 15 times for a season-high 72 yards and a score. Josh Jacobs shined for the Raiders in primetime on Monday Night Football. Jacobs rushed 20 times for 69 yards and a score to go with five receptions totaling 20 yards in Las Vegas' 17-13 win over Green Bay.
Two former Alabama wide receivers led their respective teams to wins in Week 5. Jaylen Waddle caught five passes for 35 yards and a touchdown in the Miami Dolphins' 31-16 win over the New York Giants. Also excelling from his wideout post was Calvin Ridley of the Jaguars. Ridley caught seven passes for a season-high 122 yards. The veteran also rushed two times for 14 yards to help Jacksonville outlast the Buffalo Bills, 25-20, in London.
On the defensive side of the ball, C.J. Mosley and Jonathan Allen continued their dominant play. Mosley led the Jets defense with 13 tackles, including two tackles for loss, while adding a pass breakup in New York's 31-21 road win against the Denver Broncos. Allen totaled seven tackles, one sack and a pair of quarterback hurries to lead the Commanders' defense on Thursday Night Football against the Chicago Bears.
A pair of former Tide defensive backs also stood out in Week 5. Xavier McKinney racked up eight tackles, seven of which were solo, to go with one pass breakup and forced a fumble for the New York Giants. Patrick Surtain II registered five tackles, one pass breakup and picked off a pass for the Broncos.
