
Crimson Tide Track and Field Duo Earns SEC Weekly Honors

Isaac Odugbesan is the SEC Male Field Athlete of the Week, while Hillary Cheruiyot was selected as the SEC Male Freshman of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following an outstanding showing at Alabama track and field's home Crimson Tide Invitational this past weekend, a pair of UA student-athletes earned Southeastern Conference weekly honors, the league office announced Tuesday.
Isaac Odugbesan was named the SEC Male Field Athlete of the Week after breaking a 42-year-old school record in the shot put, while Hillary Cheruiyot was selected as the SEC Male Freshman of the Week after winning the 1,500 meters with a time that ranks second all-time at UA.

Men's SEC Field Athlete of the Week
- Odugbesan uncorked a huge toss of 20.66 meters to not only win the meet, but also shatter a 42-year-old school record in the shot put on his final throw of the Crimson Tide Invitational
- Odugbesan's throw bettered Hreinn Halldorsson's previous school-record mark of 2.54 meters set in 1980
- With his mark, Odugbesan moves up to No. 3 nationally and No. 1 in the SEC

Men's SEC Freshman of the Week
- Ran an outstanding 3:38.22 to win the 1,500 meters at the Crimson Tide Invitational and rank him second all-time in the event for Alabama and second in the SEC this season behind teammate Eliud Kipsang's collegiate record of 3:33.74
- He sits nearly a second ahead of the third-ranked time in the SEC this season
- He also ranks second in the nation in the 1,500 among freshmen
The Crimson Tide closes out its regular season this weekend at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, La.
