
Alabama Men’s Track and Field No. 2 in Latest Coaches Association Rankings

The Crimson Tide’s latest standing is the highest in program history when it comes to the Men’s USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index
NEW ORLEANS – The Alabama men's track and field team earned its highest regular-season ranking in program history this week, coming in at No. 2 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Men's Track & Field Rating Index with 280 points.
Alabama jumped to No. 10 two weeks ago and was fifth last week before moving up to second following a strong showing at the Crimson Tide Invitational over the weekend. Overall the Tide has 18 performances that rank in the top-20 nationally.
Head Coach Dan Waters Said
"We have been getting better and better each week and have been building what is turning out to be a special season for our men's team. I'm proud of the job we've done to this point and the effort that this ranking represents. Now we need to keep working, keep building and carry these performances into the postseason."
Alabama in the National Top-10
- Eliud Kipsang's collegiate record in the 1,500 meters (3:33.74) has ranked No. 1, while his 800-meter effort last weekend (1:47.16) has him sitting ninth
- Mercy Chelangat is ranked third in the 5,000 meters after posting a 15:17.28 earlier this season
- Isaac Odugbesan shattered a 42-year-old school record in the men's shot put on Saturday with a toss of 20.66 meters, which ranks him third nationally
- Kieran McKeag went 71.53 meters in the men's hammer at the Crimson Tide Invitational to rank third nationally
- The men's 4x100-meter relay of Jekovan Rhetta, Tarsis Orogot, Mason Phillips and Demetrius Jackson laid down a blistering 38.86 over the weekend to ranked fifth nationally
- Victor Kiprop is fifth in the 10,000 meters (28:15.72) and eighth in the 5,000 meters (13:24.48)
- Bobby Colantonio Jr.'s 70.39 meters over the weekend ranks him ninth nationally in the men's hammer
- Alan de Falchi is 10th in the men's discus after a throw of 60.57 meters earlier this season
