The sophomore was one of four players to go under par in the final round at Augusta National
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Benedetta Moresco, University of Alabama women's golfer, burst on to the scene this weekend, finishing tied for fourth place at the Augusta National Women's Amateur at Augusta National Golf Club Saturday. The sophomore recorded a 1-under-par 71 in the final round, one of just four players to go under par on the prized track, turning in a 1-over-par 217 tournament total.
Moresco put together rounds of 70, 76 and 71 throughout the third-annual event. The Italian, who led the tournament after the first round and had a share of sixth place after the second round, was one of just nine players to record at least one round under par and one of just three players to record at least two rounds under par.
Despite a pair of bogeys on holes Nos. 4 and 5 to begin the final round at Augusta National Saturday, she responded with 10 pars and a trio of birdies. That included back-to-back birdies on holes Nos. 15 and 16 to go under par and eclipse the top five down the stretch.
Moresco trailed the Augusta National Women's Amateur Champion Anna Davis by just two strokes (1-under-par 215), while she lagged second place finishers Ingrid Lindblad and Latanna Stone by just one stroke (even-par 216). Moresco tied Amari Avery and Beatrice Wallen for fourth place (1-over-par 217).
The 20-year-old will return to the Capstone to prepare for the 2022 Southeastern Conference Tournament, April 13-17 at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Hoover, Ala., with her Crimson Tide teammates.
