Alabama Drops Heartbreaker To Vanderbilt, Defeats Tennessee State Sunday

The Crimson Tide fell a narrow 4-3 decision to Vanderbilt before rebounding with a 6-1 win over Tennessee State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –– The Alabama men's tennis team split its matches on Sunday at the Currey Tennis Center, dropping a narrow 4-3 decision to Vanderbilt before responding with a 6-1 win against Tennessee State to close the day.

After losing the doubles point, Alabama (6-14, 0-6 SEC) fought back to tie the match twice at 2-2 and 3-3 with the help of victories on courts one, four and five, respectively. The last match on court two battled into a third set but Vanderbilt (14-6, 2-5 SEC) would come away with the win.

The Tide took a dominate win over Tennessee State (3-14) in its second match of the day. UA opened with back-to-back 6-1 wins in doubles on courts one and two, respectively. Straight set wins on courts three, one and six captured the team victory for the Tide.

Against Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt clinched the doubles point after taking wins on courts three and one, respectively
The Commodores followed with a win on court six in singles, but back-to-back wins from the Tide evened the team competition at 2-2
112^th-ranked Filip Planinsek defeated 44^th-ranked George Harwell at the top of the order, 6-1, 6-4, while Patrick Kaukovalta battled back from a first set loss to take court four against Max Freeman at 0-6, 6-0, 6-2
Vanderbilt would move ahead again with a win on court three, but Juan Martin's 6-2, 6-4 win against Jeremie Casabon on court five would force another tie
Enzo Aguiard split the first two sets on court two, dropping a 6-2 opening decision to Joubert Klopper before battling to take a 6-3 win in the second set. Klopper would come away with a 6-4 win in the final round to clinch the match.

Against Tennessee State

After a long match with the Commodores, Alabama responded by capturing the doubles point against the Tigers
Kaukovalta and Planinsek dropped just one game against Leandros Misdrachis and Maksims Kazijevs at No. 1 doubles, while Aguiard and Joao Ferreira mirrored the score at No. 2 doubles against Pierre Copin and Daniel Perez-Caraballo
Kaukovalta captured the Tide's first singles point with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kazijevs on court three as a 6-1, 6-2 victory from his doubles partner Planinsek on court one gave UA its third point
Zach Foster would go 6-1, 6-4 on court six against Copin for the team win
Rudi Christiansen added a 0-6, 6-2, 6-1 win on court five against Diego Britt-Alvarez, Aguiard added a 6-4, 6-4 win on court two against Perez-Caraballo
