
Alabama Men’s Golf Set to Compete at Annual Linger Longer Invitational

The 15-team field will play 54 holes across three days from Sunday through Tuesday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's golf team will return to tournament action beginning Sunday when it competes at the 17th annual Linger Longer Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played Sunday through Tuesday and is hosted on the par 72, 7,436-yard Great Waters Golf Course in Eatonton, Ga.
The Crimson Tide will tee off on Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. CT (8:30 a.m. ET) alongside Virginia and Toledo. Live scoring throughout tournament play can be followed on Golfstat.com.
The Lineup
- The Crimson Tide's lineup will be led by the trio of Canon Claycomb, Thomas Ponder and JP Cave, who have competed as part of Alabama's starting five in every tournament of the 2021-22 campaign
- Rounding out the starting five is junior Jack Goldasich, who is making his first tournament appearance this spring, and junior Dillon West
- Two other Crimson Tide golfers will also see action in the event, as Charles Nikitas and Jones Free will compete as individuals
- Claycomb, who earned SEC Golfer of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 23, is a combined 21-under par across the Tide's first two tournaments this Spring
- Claycomb (70.66) and Ponder (71.33) lead the Tide in stroke average
Tournament Preview
- The 15-team field features five teams ranked among the top 25, including No. 4 North Carolina, No. 6 Vanderbilt, No. 10 Georgia, No. 19 Florida, No. 22 Clemson
- Augusta, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Kennesaw State (Co-host), Mercer (Co-host), Toledo, UNCG, USF and Virginia will also compete
Last Time Out
- Canon Claycomb finished in a tie for 12th place and lead the Crimson Tide men's golf team at the Cabo Collegiate
- The Tide improved its score each day over the 54-hole event (286-282-280), to finish 14th overall with a 4-under par 848.
- Claycomb finished with a 7-under par 206 (68-69-69) to result in his second consecutive top-15 finish and third top-20 result of the season
- Thomas Ponder recorded his 11th top-20 finish of his career after carding a 207, carding back-to-back rounds in the 60s to open the event (67-68-72)
