
Alabama in Ninth After Opening Round of Linger Longer Invitational

A total of three UA golfers, two in the starting five, among the top 20 individually
EATONTON, Ga. –The University of Alabama men's golf team is in ninth place following Sunday's opening round of the Linger Longer Invitational, finishing the day with a round of 5-over par 293. Juniors Dillon West and Canon Claycomb are both tied for 20th overall to lead the Crimson Tide after carding matching rounds of even-par 72.
Meanwhile, Charlie Nikitas, who is competing as an individual, shot a 1-under par 71 to sit in a tie for 12th place individually. He posted the lowest round of the day for any UA golfer, carding a team-best six birdies throughout the round.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being contested on the par-72, 7,436-yard Great Waters Golf Course in Eatonton, Ga.

The Highlights
- Including Nikitas' round, a total of three UA golfers are in the top 20 after Sunday's opening round
- Claycomb continued to build on the momentum he gained in the Tide's first two spring tournaments, where he notched a pair of top-15 finishes and posted the two lowest 54-hole totals of his career (combined -21).
- In Sunday's opening round, he rallied from an early double bogey to shoot 2-under par over the final 15 holes and finish at even-par 72
- West, making his third career appearance in the Tide's lineup, carded five birdies throughout the opening round
- Thomas Ponder recorded a 2-over par 74 and will enter Monday's second round in a tie for 37th
- Jack Goldasich, competing in his first spring tournament, rallied after a 4-over-par front nine with a 1-under-par on the back nine to card a 3-over par 75 to sit in a tie for 46th
- Goldasich recorded the only eagle of the day for the Tide on the par-5 No.6.
- JP Cave posted a 4-over par 76 to round out the Tide's lineup in a tie for 58th place
The Field
- No. 6 Vanderbilt leads the field after the opening 18 holes, posting a 9-under par 279
- The Commodore's hold a one-stroke lead over No. 10 Georgia at 8-under par 280, and a five-stroke lead on No.19 Florida, who is in third place with a 4-under par 284
- No. 4 North Carolina and USF round out the top five in a tie for fourth with matching totals of 1-under-par 287
- The 15-team tournament field features five of the nation's top 25 teams, including No. 4 North Carolina, No. 6 Vanderbilt, No. 10 Georgia, No. 19 Florida and No. 22 Clemson.
- The field also includes co-hosts Kennesaw State and Mercer, along with Augusta, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Toledo, UNCG, USF and Virginia
Next Round
- The Tide will tee off round two at 8:30 a.m. CT off Hole No. 1 and will be paired alongside Charlotte and Clemson
