Bobby Colantonio Jr. Wins NCAA Title
Bobby Colantonio Jr.'s extraordinary journey continued this past weekend. Six years ago, Bobby was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and was given a 20 percent chance to survive. On Friday night, he stood on top of the podium at the Birmingham Crossplex holding the gold trophy as the NCAA weight throw champion. It was an incredible moment for an amazing young man. In the team competitions, our men posted the 20th top-20 NCAA Indoor Championships finish in program history, taking 13th, while our women came away with their 21st top-30 finish, taking 28th.
Basketball Continues on with Tournament Play
Our men's and women's basketball seasons continue later this week with postseason tournament play. The men are slated to head to San Diego for the start of the NCAA Tournament, where they will face off with the winner of the Rutgers/Notre Dame game on Friday at 3:15 p.m. CT. The women were selected for the field of 64 in the WNIT and will head to Troy to take on the Trojans in the first round on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT. Best of luck to both of our squads!
Gymnastics Postseason Opens This Week
Our gymnastics team closed out the regular season in grand fashion, posting a pair of 198 scores in its final two meets – downing Arkansas in Coleman Coliseum for Senior Night and then winning the Huntsville-based Elevate the Stage against Auburn, Arkansas and Georgia. It marks the first time in program history that we've reached that lofty mark twice in the same regular season. This Saturday, we head up the road to Birmingham for the Southeastern Conference Championships, where we'll look to defend our 2021 title. We wish our ladies the best of luck as they prepare for the postseason and hope you can join the team in Birmingham to cheer on the Crimson Tide.
NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships
Our women's and men's swimming and diving squads are headed to Atlanta, for back-to-back weeks at the NCAA Championships. Our women begin competition this Wednesday at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the Georgia Tech campus, while the men's championships get underway the following Wednesday in the same location. Both our men and women are in the midst of great seasons and are looking to close things out strong over the next two weeks.

A-Day Kick Time and Homecoming Date Announced
A couple calendar additions relative to football as we recently announced the kick time for A-Day and date for Homecoming 2022. Our annual Golden Flake A-Day Spring Game will begin at 2 p.m. CT inside Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, April 16. Homecoming has been set for the weekend of October 22, 2022, against Mississippi State.
Boat Dedication
We had a great crowd on hand March 5 at Manderson Landing to honor longtime athletics administrators Finus Gaston and Marie Robbins with the dedication of their boats for our rowing team. A well-deserved honor for these two incredible individuals, who continue to mean so much to our department.
