
Alabama Men’s Tennis Team Returns Home to Host Memphis, UAB Saturday

Saturday’s matches will be the last double header of the year for the Crimson Tide as the team moves to a Friday-Sunday schedule
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– In its last double header of the season, the Alabama men's tennis team (2-3) welcomes Memphis (3-2) and UAB (1-1) to the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility Saturday. The Crimson Tide opens the day with Memphis at 1 p.m. CT, before returning for its match against the Blazers at 6 p.m. CT.

- Filip Planinsek and Juan Martin continue to lead the Tide, ranking No. 16 nationally as a doubles pairing after earning a trip to the ITA National Fall Championships

- Memphis' Jeremy Taylor ranks No. 88 and Oscar Cutting ranks No. 112 in singles play while David Stevenson and Taylor rank No. 30 as doubles partners
2022 With The Tide
- Aguiard and Planinsek lead the team in singles play with three dual-match wins apiece, while Aguiard and Joao Ferreira pace the team in doubles play with a 3-2 record
- The Crimson Tide is coming off three consecutive non-conference matchups, facing Southeastern Conference foes Ole Miss, Kentucky and Arkansas
- Alabama traveled to then-ranked No. 18 Ole Miss after its home match against Oklahoma State was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols within the Cowboys' program
- UA captured the doubles point before a back-and-forth battle in singles play gave the Rebels a 4-3 edge
- At the ITA Kickoff Weekend, Alabama faced No. 11 Kentucky and Arkansas falling 4-0 to both teams in the all-SEC regional, which also featured host-school and then-No. 21 Mississippi State
A Look at Memphis
- Memphis enters the weekend 3-2 after coming off a road loss to No. 19 Mississippi State
- Saturday's match will be the third-straight contest against an SEC opponent as Memphis also faced No. 1 Tennessee in the finals at the ITA Kickoff Weekend
- The Tigers suffered a 4-0 loss to Tennessee before Mississippi State clinched the regular season dual match with a 4-1 score
- Alabama and Memphis will meet for the 14th time, with the Tigers winning last year's contest 4-3
- UA leads the series 8-6
The UAB Blazers
- This is the third dual match of the year for the Blazers after opening the season with a 6-1 loss to then-No. 21 Mississippi State and a 6-1 victory over North Alabama
- Alabama and UAB have gone head-to-head 27 times with Alabama leading the series 23-4
- The last meeting was in January of 2020
- Alabama won 6-1 in that meeting, including a win on all singles courts
