Alabama Men’s Tennis Splits Double Header against Memphis, UAB

The Crimson Tide fell 4-3 to the Tigers, before battling back to take a 7-0 win against UAB

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– The Alabama men's tennis team (3-4) split its double header on Saturday at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility. The Tide battled Memphis (4-2) in a 4-3 loss which saw five of six singles courts going into a third set, before sweeping UAB (1-2) 7-0 to round out the day.

"We became better competitors this week in practice and as a result we had a better overall team performance in both matches today. Our three freshmen at the top of the lineup – Filip (Planinsek), Enzo (Aguiard) & German (Samofalov) - faced plenty of adversity and didn't back down from the challenge. They continue to mature as do we as a team. There will be more growing up to do at practice this week as we prepare for even more opportunities and challenges in Oklahoma."

Against Memphis

Enzo Aguiard and Joao Ferreira opened the day with a 6-4 win over Oscar Cutting and Harry Rock at No. 2, while Filip Planinsek and German Samofalov topped No. 30 David Stevenson and Jeremy Taylor 7-5 at No. 1
The Tigers took back-to-back wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles for a 2-1 lead in the team points, but Planinsek and Aguiard responded with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively
No. 83 ranked Planinsek went 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 against No. 112 Cutting, while Aguiard defeated No. 88 Taylor 6-4, 1-6, 7-5
Memphis would take the last two points to clinch the match, battling through a third set on both court four and three, respectively

Against UAB

The Tide again jumped out to a 1-0 start with Rudi Christiansen and Juan Martin topping Parker Bradbary and Martin Vasquez 6-1 on court three followed by a 6-3 win from Planinsek and Samofalov over Thanos Spyropoulos and Michal Lusovsky on court one
Planinsek captured the first singles point, going 6-1, 6-4 against Michal Lusovsky at the top of the order as Aguiard followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Spyropoulos at No. 2
Christiansen clinched the match for the Tide as he downed Martin Vasquez 6-2, 6-4 on court six
Ferreira's 7-5, 6-2 win over Vojtech Podzemny on court four, Samofalov's 0-6, 7-5 (5), 1-0 (5) win over Roman Postolka on court three and Zach Foster's 7-5, 7-5 win over Nikola Puric on court five rounded out the day

Alabama will head on the road, traveling to Oklahoma on Feb. 11 to face the Sooners in a 5:30 p.m. CT match before traveling to Tulsa on Feb. 13 for a noon CT start.
