
Isabella van der Biest Named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week

The freshman helped the Crimson Tide women’s golf mount a comeback at the Moon Golf Invitational
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Alabama women's golfer Isabella van der Biest has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Competing in the Crimson Tide's lineup for the first time at the Moon Golf Invitational Feb. 20-22, the freshman contributed all three of her rounds to the team score, helping Alabama jump from 10th place to fourth place over the course of the three-day, 54-hole tournament.
In her debut, Biest recorded rounds of 75, 72 and 73 at the par-72, 6,417-yard Suntree Country Club, with her even-par second round marking a career low. The Kingsport, Tenn., native finished the event tied for 26th place with a 4-over-par 2220 tournament total.
The Crimson Tide's finish marked its fifth straight in the top four since the start of the 2021-22 campaign.
After turning in a 9-over-par 297 for 10th place in the first round, the Crimson Tide improved its second round by 11 shots on a 2-under-par 286 to move up to seventh place and then improved its third round by 18 shots on a 9-under-par 279 to finish in fourth place.
The Tide's 2-under-par 286 in the second round was the lowest score of the day and the Tide's 9-under-par 279 was the lowest score of the entire tournament.
Alabama will continue its spring campaign next week at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head Island, S.C. Feb. 28-March 2.
