Jones participates in All-Star Clorox Rising Stars Game, Bruner and Petty Jr. achieve career-highs
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The NBA trade deadline has passed and All-Star festivities are now complete as Edition V of the Alabama Men's Basketball Pro Spotlight is released. In this edition, the focus turns to the second half of the NBA season as well as Alabama stars abroad. Corban Collins, Michael Kessens and Shannon Hale are among some of the new faces in this week's edition.
Below is a look at a few former Crimson Tide players highlights from both the NBA and overseas:
Herbert Jones, New Orleans Pelicans
- Jones continues to receive rave reviews and find new ways to raise the bar. He recently participated in the 2022 All-Star Clorox Rising Stars Game at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, in which knocked down a three-pointer for Team Worthy, his only shot of the game.
- Earlier this month, he led the Pelicans to a win over the Denver Nuggets and defending MVP Nikola Jokic when he scored 25 points (18 in the fourth quarter) to go along with a pair of 2 steals.
- Jones looks to continue playing a big role after the Pelicans traded some key pieces and it remains clear that he will be a core player in New Orleans moving forward while continuing his huge rookie season.
JaMychal Green, Denver Nuggets
- Green was a welcome addition to the Nuggets' bench upon his return from health and safety protocols. Since rejoining the team, he has made an impact by averaging 9.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.0 steal in 16 minutes per game. His big plays have turned heads including when he dunked on reigning NBA Championship MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
- He emphasized his value to the Denver Nuggets scoring a season-high 20 points (6-7 FG) to go along with 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals in a win over the New York Knicks on Feb. 8.
Joshua Primo, San Antonio Spurs/Austin Toros
- Primo is constantly showcasing the tools that made him a lottery pick selection in the 2021 NBA Draft. Since this most recent call-up from Austin, he has averaged 6.5 points, 1.6 assists, and 2.1 rebounds in 21 minutes per game.
- Coach Greg Popovich emphasized how much he has grown in the G-League where he is shooting 50% from deep, leading all qualified scorers.
John Petty Jr., Birmingham Squadron
- Petty and the Birmingham Squadron are putting on a solid inaugural campaign sitting at 8-6 in the Western Conference of the G-League. Alabama's all-time three-point shooting leader is averaging 7.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.3 steals in 24 minutes per game.
- Petty is heating up as of late scoring a career-high 16 points in two of his last three games, while shooting 10-of-21 from three-point range, grabbing 15 rebounds, and 8 steals in that span.
European Crimson Tide Pros
- Donta Hall has now led AS Monaco to the quarterfinals of the French Cup with his monstrous double-double pulling down a career-high 16 rebounds to go with 15 points scored.
- Hall was also perfect from the field (8-8 FG) in Monaco's recent league win over Gravelines leading his team with 18 points along with 5 rebounds and 1 block. He is currently third in blocks in the EuroLeague as his team sits 1.5 games out of the playoffs.
- Levi Randolph and Filou Oostende are still undefeated as he led the team to their 18th straight victory in BNXT league play, scoring 15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
- Champions League group stages have proved to be more of a challenge for the Dutch team as they've dropped their first three games, despite Randolph putting up 20 points, 4 rebounds, and an assist in their loss against U-BT Napoca.
- Despite his 19 points, 7 assists, and 3 rebounds, Retin Obasohan's squad Hapoel Jerusalem fell to Prometey in Game 3 to move into the Champions' League group stages. Obasohan would have faced off against former teammate Levi Randolph playing in the same group as Filou Oostende should they have won.
- Since the loss, Hapoel Jerusalem have taken first in the Israel Winner League going 2-1 in league play with Obasohan scoring a double-double on 15 points and 11 assists in their most recent victory.
- Jordan Bruner earned his first professional double-double as well as a career-high in points, leading Imortal Luzigas Albufeira to a win, scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals, and a block.
- He is averaging 9.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in his first year with the LPB.
- After graduating in 2017, Corban Collins began his international career in Germany before playing in Sweden, Finland, Italy, and now in Kosovo.
- Since Collins joined, his team KB Trepca Mitrovice has vaulted into first place of the Kosovo-Superliga while he is averaging 11.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists.
