Former Alabama players make impact in Week 8 of the 2022-23 NFL season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Week 8 of the 2022 National Football League concluded on Monday night. Below is a look at former Alabama players who made an impact on the field.
Derrick Henry came to play in a 17-10 victory over the Houston Texans. The star running back carried the Tennessee Titans, rushing 35 times for 219 yards and two touchdowns while also catching one pass for nine yards. Henry was named the AFC Player of the Week for his impressive outing and now ranks among the top-three in the NFL in multiple rushing statistics.
Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle also shined last week, scoring two touchdowns in Miami's 31-27 comeback win over the Detroit Lions. The Dolphins wideout recorded eight receptions for 106 yards in the contest. Waddle's quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, had another solid week, throwing for 382 yards and three touchdowns on 29-of-36 passing.
Rounding out the offensive group was fellow quarterback Jalen Hurts. Hurts bested Tagovailoa's QBR with a rating of 140.6 in a 35-13 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Philadelphia's signal-caller went 19-28 for 285 yards and a career-best four touchdowns. Hurts also rushed twice for 10 yards to help the Eagles remain undefeated.
Eddie Jackson picked off yet another pass for the Bears. The Chicago safety added a career-high tying 11 tackles and a pass breakup in the matchup with the Dallas Cowboys. Linebacker Rashaan Evans continued to be a tackling machine for the Falcons. He accounted for nine tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss and one quarterback hit in Atlanta's overtime win against the Carolina Panthers. Thanks to his effort in the divisional matchup, Evans remained Atlanta's leader for tackles and moved to seventh among league defenders in that category.
Two linemen rounded out the defensive group. Quinnen Williams added to his already impressive season totals for the New York Jets, posting five tackles, including one for loss and a sack, while adding three quarterback hits. Fellow lineman Daron Payne matched Williams in tackles. Payne tallied five stops, including one for loss and a sack, while also contributing one quarterback hit and a fumble recovery for the Washington Commanders.
