Volleyball Closes Season Hosting Tennessee for Two Matches

The Crimson Tide and Lady Vols face off Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT and Friday at 5 p.m. CT
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama volleyball concludes the 2022 season this week with two home matches against Tennessee. The Crimson Tide and Lady Vols open the series Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. CT live on the SEC Network before celebrating senior day on Friday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. CT.

Scouting Alabama
- Alabama concludes the 2022 season this week with two home matches against Tennessee, starting Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT on the SEC Network and concluding Friday at 5 p.m. CT
- Last week, the Crimson Tide fell in a pair of road contests at Arkansas
- The Tide leads the SEC with 178 aces, while Abby Marjama leads the league and is fifth nationally with 61
- Prior to Friday's season finale, Alabama will recognize Taylor Drapp, Emily Janek, Dru Kuck, Katie Shook and Alyiah Wells for senior day
Last Time out: at Arkansas
- Alabama lost a pair of three-set matches to Arkansas in its final road trip of the season
- Abby Marjama and Alyiah Wells led the team with 14 kills each, while Sami Jacobs was close behind with 12
- Marjama also led the team with five aces, while Vic Schmer tallied four
- On the defensive end, Sydney Gholson had a team-leading 21 digs and Wells stuffed eight blocks
Abby Marjama Cracks UA Single-Season and Career Top 10 in Aces
- With her third ace in Sunday's match at Arkansas, Abby Marjama moved into both the single-season and career top 10 at Alabama in service aces
- With 66 aces this season, she is tied in 10th place with Nancy Woolsey (1979) and Erin Price (2002) and it is the most for any UA player since Mary Catherine Aune's 67 during the 2007 season
- Beyond Aune's ninth-place total of 67, Dorothy Franco (1978) and Jennifer Miller (1989) are tied in seventh place with 69 and Sue Faris (1990) is in sixth with 71
- Marjama has 126 aces as a member of the Crimson Tide, tying Jennifer Bibber's (2000-03) career total and just one shy of ninth place Kryssi Daniels (2012-15)
- Beyond Daniels in ninth place, Krystal Rivers (2012-16) is the next in line with an eighth-place total of 136
Program-Best Four Earn Academic All-District Recognition
- Alabama volleyball placed a program-best four student-athletes on the 2022-23 Academic All-District Volleyball team, selected by College Sports Communicators, as Abby Marjama, Kendyl Reaugh, Vic Schmer and Alyiah Wells were named to the team Tuesday
- The four honorees are the most in program history, beating the previous record of three set in 1999 and 2000
- The group brings Alabama's all-time total to 26 and it is the first career accolade for all four student-athletes
- The four will now move onto the national ballot for the Academic All-America teams, which will be announced Dec. 21
Alabama Aces
- Alabama leads the SEC in service aces (189) and aces-per-set (1.83)
- Abby Marjama leads the individual rankings with 66 (0.67/set), which is 22 more than the next-highest total
- Marjama is one of just nine players nationally with over 60 aces and one of seven averaging over 0.60 per set
- Marjama is fourth nationally in total aces and third in aces-per-set
SEC Leaders
- In conference games, Alabama is ranked third in aces (89, 1.53/set) and digs (852, 14.69/set)
- In the individual league play rankings, Marjama leads the way in aces (36, 0.62/set) while Emily Janek is ranked in the top 10 in both assists (7th - 382, 8.88/set) and digs (10th - 139, 3.23/set)
- Janek is the only player in the league ranked in the top 10 in both categories
