Alabama Volleyball Readies for Midweek Match at Texas A&M

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama volleyball is back on the road this week for a quick midweek trip to College Station, Texas to face Texas A&M on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. CT.
This Week: at Texas A&M

Scouting Alabama
- After an off week, Alabama is back in action Wednesday, Nov. 2 on the road at Texas A&M at 6 p.m. CT
- After Wednesday's match, five of the seven remaining matches on the Crimson Tide's schedule will be in Tuscaloosa
- Alabama is coming off a road weekend at Georgia, nearly pulling off a reverse sweep of the Bulldogs in a five-set loss on Oct. 22 before falling in three sets the following day
- The Tide leads the SEC with 1.83 aces-per-set and is second with 154 total aces, while Abby Marjama leads the league and is fifth nationally with 52
- Alabama returns 14 players from last year's squad, including seniors Taylor Drapp, Emily Janek, Dru Kuck, Katie Shook and Alyiah Wells and fifth-year senior Marjama
- Newcomers this year include freshman Micah Gryniewicz, an AVCA All-Region honoree from Chandler, Ariz., and sophomore Maddy McCormick, who played at Colorado State last season
Last Time out: at Georgia
- Alabama fell in two matches on the road at Georgia last time out, nearly pulling off a reverse sweep in a five-set loss on Saturday, Oct. 22 before dropping a three-set decision the following day
- In game one, the Crimson Tide rallied for wins in the third and fourth sets and fended off three match points from the Bulldogs in the fifth but ultimately fell, 18-16, in a hard-fought finish
- The match was Alabama's second reverse sweep attempt of the season, previously forcing five sets against Oregon State on Sept. 2
- Alyiah Wells earned her 300th career block in the opening contest and Abby Marjama set a new single-season best with her 49th service ace, beating her previous high of 48 from her freshman season at UC Irvine
- Emily Janek (50 assists, 15 digs) and Kendyl Reaugh (12 kills, 11 digs) each earned double-doubles in the five-set match, their seventh and fourth of the season, respectively
- Wells led the team in kills (22) and blocks (12) on the weekend
Alabama Aces
- Alabama leads the SEC in service aces per set (1.83) and is just one behind Georgia for the overall lead (154)
- Individually, Abby Marjama leads the individual rankings with 52 (0.65/set), which is 21 more than the next-highest total
- The Tide is one of six power five teams with over 150 aces and Marjama is one of just seven players nationally with over 50
- Nationally, the Crimson Tide is 12th in total aces 16th in aces-per-set
- Marjama is fifth nationally in total aces and aces-per-set
Career Milestones
- Alyiah Wells earned the 300th block of her career in the Oct. 22 match against Georgia, currently sitting at 310 while averaging 1.11 blocks-per-set this season
- Brooke Slusser is only nine assists shy of the 1,100 mark for her career and 175 away from tying her total from last season
- Abby Marjama has 52 aces this season, beating her previous single-season high of 48 from her freshman season at UC Irvine and is at 188 for her career
- 112 of Marjama's aces have come with the Crimson Tide, which is 14 shy of the career top 10
- Dru Kuck has 873 career digs, including 426 with the Crimson Tide
