Volleyball Heads to Athens for Two Road Matches Against Georgia

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama volleyball is on the road this weekend for a pair of road matches against Georgia. The weekend series begins Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. CT before wrapping up on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. CT live on the SEC Network.
This Weekend: at Georgia
- Athens, Ga. – Stegeman Coliseum
- Saturday, Oct. 22 – 1 p.m. CT

Scouting Alabama
- Alabama hits the road this weekend for a pair of matches at Georgia, facing off Saturday at 1 p.m. CT and Sunday live on the SEC Network at 11 a.m. CT
- The Tide leads the SEC and ranks 12th nationally with 144 service aces, while Abby Marjama is fifth nationally with 47
- Alabama returns 14 players from last year's squad, including seniors Taylor Drapp, Emily Janek, Dru Kuck, Katie Shook and Alyiah Wells and fifth-year senior Marjama
- Newcomers this year include freshman Micah Gryniewicz, an AVCA All-Region honoree from Chandler, Ariz., and sophomore Maddy McCormick, who played at Colorado State last season
Last Time out: vs. LSU
- Alabama and LSU battled it out for five sets Wednesday night in Tuscaloosa, with the Tigers ultimately coming out victorious over the Crimson Tide
- The match was just the second five-set contest of the season for Alabama, its first at home or in conference play
- The 15 blocks are the Tide's highest total since earning 18 in a five-set win against Ole Miss on Nov. 3, 2019
- Alyiah Wells led the team with a season-best 10 blocks, putting her just two away from the 300th of her career
- Kendyl Reaugh earned her third double-double of the season while Emily Janek earned her sixth, including a career-best 20 digs
- Abby Marjama is now just one service ace shy of tying her single-season high of 48 from her freshman campaign at UC Irvine
Georgia Homecoming for Rashinda Reed
- This weekend in Athens will be a homecoming of sorts for first year Alabama head coach Rashinda Reed, as she played two seasons for the Bulldogs in 2002 and 2003, later earning her bachelor's degree in psychology in 2005
- Reed led Georgia in blocks in both seasons she played, posting 142 in 2002 and 132 in 2003
- She remains the Bulldogs' career blocks-per-set record holder with 1.27 and her 1.32 blocks-per-set in 2003 ranks eighth in single-season program history
Alabama Aces
- Alabama leads the SEC in service aces as a team (144, 1.89/set) while Abby Marjama (47, 0.65/set) leads the individual rankings
- The Tide is one of four SEC teams with over 120 aces, just ahead of Auburn (133), Georgia (127) and Florida (123)
- After Marjama's 47 aces, the next-highest individual total in the league is 29
- Nationally, the Crimson Tide is 12th in total aces 16th in aces-per-set
- Marjama is fifth nationally in total aces and sixth in aces-per-set
Career Milestones
- Alyiah Wells is two blocks away from the 300th of her career, averaging just over one block per set this season
- Brooke Slusser is only nine assists shy of the 1,100 mark for her career and 175 away from tying her total from last season
- Abby Marjama has 183 career aces and her 47 this season is just one shy from her single-season best set her freshman season at UC Irvine
- Dru Kuck has 864 career digs, including 417 with the Crimson Tide
