TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Hannah Barber drained a career-high five 3-pointers and scored a season-high 19 points, as the University of Alabama women's basketball team dropped to Mississippi State, 65-62, inside Coleman Coliseum Thursday. The Crimson Tide fell to 10-4 (1-2), while the Bulldogs improved to 10-4 (1-1).
Barber, a guard from Homewood, Ala., led the Crimson Tide in scoring for the first time this season, recording a season-high 19 points on 7-of-11 from the field and 5-of-8 from long range. The senior's five 3-pointers marked a career high. Three players scored in double-digits on the night, as Megan Abrams (14) and Brittany Davis (11) rounded out the threesome.
Despite Alabama and Mississippi State trading the lead eight times, the Bulldogs led for more than 33 minutes in the game. UA shot 41.8 percent on 23-of-55 from the field, including draining 10 3-pointers, while MSU shot 44.3 percent on 27-of-61 from the field. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Crimson Tide, 36-33.
From Head Coach Kristy Curry
"First thing that I want to say is thanks to everybody that came out on a rainy and dreary night in Tuscaloosa. We appreciate our crowd that came out. Disappointed tonight. Credit Mississippi State, you know, when (Jerkaila) Jordan, (Aislynn) Hayes and (Myah) Taylor score 52-of-65, I thought they really dominated us at those three spots at times and you just have to credit those kids. I mean, they really hurt us tonight on the perimeter and a lot of points in the paint off drives and penetration, and when you couple that with 20 turnovers that gave up to 20 points. When those three are scoring the ball like that and you have 20 turnovers, you're probably not going to be very successful. Credit Mississippi State's guard play and their defense, I thought it was really, really good tonight."
