The Crimson Tide fell 4-0 to the Razorbacks to conclude the regional qualifying event

Starkville, Miss. –– The Alabama men's tennis team (2-3) suffered a 4-0 loss to Arkansas (6-1) in the ITA Kickoff Weekend consolation match at the Rula Tennis Pavilion in Starkville, Miss.

"Our team was introduced to what is required to compete in the SEC the last two weekends and in the process took plenty of punches. There were some bright spots, Juan (Martin) back on the court embracing the opportunity after being out with an injury, Zach (Foster) implementing new tactics that pushed his ceiling higher and Filip (Planinsek) realizing there's such little margin for error when facing the opposing team's best player on a regular basis. But there are no excuses. The reality is that we were not tough enough, long enough. The only way to improve is to own this fact, accept the situation and take action when we return to practice on Tuesday."

The Match

Filip Planinsek and German Samofalov captured the first win in doubles play, defeating Alex Reco and Nico Rousset 6-3 at the No. 1 spot
Arkansas recorded wins in the final two doubles matches as the Tide forced a 7-6 tiebreak on both courts
The Razorbacks extended their lead to 2-0 with a two-set win on court four, before following with a victory on court two and one, respectively, for the win
When the match was clinched, Juan Martin was winning 1-0 on court four, taking a 6-4 victory in the first set and battling through a 2-3 score in the second set
Zach Foster clinched a 7-6 (4) first-set victory at No. 6 and was looking to overcome a 3-1 deficit in the second set

Alabama returns home to host Memphis and UAB in a double header on Feb. 5. The Tide's match against the Tigers will begin at 1 p.m. CT before the team goes head-to-head against the Blazers at 6 p.m. CT.
