
Alabama Volleyball Caps Opening Weekend with Sweep over Miami Ohio

Dru Kuck named Tournament MVP, Emily Janek All-Tournament team
HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Alabama volleyball capped opening weekend with a three-set sweep over Miami Ohio Saturday morning.
Alabama (3-0) completed its undefeated weekend with a sweep of Miami Ohio (0-2), winning the Marshall Invitational. Shaye Eggleston hit .313 in the win with eight kills and eight digs, only trailing Kendyl Reaugh for the team lead with nine kills. Alyiah Wells hit .545 with seven kills and also led the team with seven blocks. For the third-straight match, Dru Kuck led the team in digs with 18, giving her 64 over 11 sets this weekend.
For their efforts over the tournament, Kuck was name the Marshall Invitational MVP and Emily Janek was named to the All-Tournament team.
Miami scored the first point of the opening set before Alabama responded with eight unanswered to take the 8-1 lead. The Tide soon led by double digits at 13-3 and eventually won the set by the same margin, 25-15. Alabama scored six unanswered to start the second set and the Redhawks would draw as close as three points but the Tide remained in control for the remainder, winning 25-17 to take a 2-0 match lead. Miami scored the first point of set three to take its first lead of the match, holding an early lead before a 6-0 run from Alabama moved them in front 11-7 and the Redhawks took a timeout. The Tide held the lead for the rest of the game, capping the sweep with a 25-20 set victory.
