The Crimson Tide earned its second win of the season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's soccer team (2-1-0) hosted the Lamar Cardinals (1-2-0) in a Friday night matchup to bring home its second win of the season. After dropping 1-0 early in the match, the Crimson Tide fired off three goals to defeat the Cardinals, 3-1.
Kate Henderson led the Crimson Tide with a brace, while Allie Berk scored the third and final goal of the night. Isela Ramirez led the Cardinals, netting the team's lone goal. In goal, Lamar's Nicole Panis made eight saves, while McKinley Crone tallied one for the Tide.
Despite the Tide leading in shots during the first half of the game, Lamar struck first, capitalizing on one of its two chances at goal. Isela Ramirez finished a breakaway opportunity that started near midfield in the 24th minute of the match to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead. Alabama answered back 10 minutes later with an equalizer coming in the 34th minute. Midfielder Taylor Carter received a pass from Gessica Skorka, who crossed the ball and found Kate Henderson's head in the middle of the six-yard box.
In the second half, the Crimson Tide shut-down Lamar's offense and continued to find chances in the attacking third. In the 62nd minute of the match, freshman Aislin Streicek dribbled down the left side of the field, then whipped a cross into the box for Kate Henderson to head into the back of the net and notched her second goal of the night. Less than 10 minutes later, midfielder Allie Berk received a pass from Brooke Steere in the penalty area, tapping the ball into the back of the net. Berk's goal in the 69th minute was the third and final goal of the match.

From Head Coach Wes Hart
"We made it a little bit harder on ourselves. I would have liked to have cruised through that one and rest some players, knowing we have a short turnaround with Sunday's game, but I thought it was good for us. It was a good challenge, and I didn't think we played poorly. That's just soccer, right? I mean we created a lot of chances, had a lot of territory in the first half, but we didn't convert our chances. The one big chance we gave away, they converted. I give a lot of credit to Lamar, they battled tough. They were short-handed a bit, and I thought they gave us a very challenging test.
"I thought we answered well. We came back and got the goal just before halftime, which I thought was big. And then going into the second half, our message to the team was that 'we don't need to change anything.' We're doing the right things, we're creating chances. We just have to find the back of the net and thankfully Henderson got us the second goal of the game, and then Allie (Berk) got the insurance goal at the end. I was pleased with the performance overall."
