
Alabama Soccer Prepares for Exhibition at Tennessee

Alabama’s regular season will begin August 19 as it hosts Jacksonville State
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's soccer team opens a new season with an exhibition match against the Tennessee Volunteers. The exhibition match will take place at the Regal Soccer Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn., on Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 4 p.m. CT.
"I'm really happy with where we are at this point in the preseason," head coach Wes Hart said. "We've got a lot of new faces on the roster, but I believe we've been able to gel fairly quickly. Trainings have been sharp. Players are working hard. We are excited for the Tennessee game."
Wednesday's game is the second time that the two teams have faced off in an exhibition in the last four years. Alabama met Tennessee in an exhibition during the 2018 season, winning the season prelude 1-0.
Alabama vs. Tennessee
- The two teams have officially met on the pitch 22 times, with Alabama trailing in the series 8-13-1
- In the last meeting, Alabama came out victorious winning 3-1 at home to open the 2020 season
- UA has won the last three matches played at Regal Stadium, including a 2-1 double overtime win in 2019
A Look at Alabama
- Hart is entering his seventh season as head coach for the Tide, owning a record of 51-51-13
- The Tide returns 15 players from the 2020-21 season, including sophomore midfielder Felicia Knox who led the team with four goals
- UA will also return its assists leaders in senior midfielder Kat Rogers and junior midfielder Macy Clem, who both tallied four on the season
- In goal, graduate student McKinley Crone posted 77 saves and five shutouts in her first year with the Tide
- Additionally, junior midfielder Reyna Reyes competed with the Mexican national team in friendlies during the 2021 season
- Alabama welcomes 14 newcomers, including three transfers from schools that made strong NCAA Tournament runs
- Alabama adds 11 freshmen to the squad with two of them bringing international experience
Scouting Tennessee
- Tennessee finished its 2020-21 campaign posting a record of 8-6-1
- Head coach Brian Pensky enters his 10th season with the Vols and owns a record of 106-61-26
- The team returns redshirt sophomore Jaida Thomas, who served as an offensive threat in the 2020-21 campaign. Thomas led the team in points and goals with 25 and 12, respectively
- Tennessee also returns junior goalkeeper Lindsey Romig, who started for the Vols for both the 2019 and 2020-21 seasons
- Romig posted 62 saves and helped her team to five shutouts in the 2020-21 season
- The Vols bring in 10 newcomers this season, adding three transfers and seven freshmen to their roster
After UA faces Tennessee, the Tide is scheduled to play Jacksonville State in the 2021 season opener at the Alabama Soccer Stadium. The match will take place on Thursday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. CT. Admission is free for all home Alabama regular-season soccer games.
