Alabama Track and Field Earns Four South Region Outdoor “of the Year” Honors

Tamara Clark and Robert Dunning were named the women’s and men’s South Region Track Athlete of the Year, respectively, while Dan Waters was named the men’s Head Coach of the Year and Blaine Wiley was named the women’s Assistant Coach of the Year
NEW ORLEANS – The Alabama track and field team earned four regional honors from the USTFCCCA, it was announced Friday.
Tamara Clark was named the South Region Women's Track Athlete of the Year, while Robert Dunning was named the South Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year. Dan Waters was voted the South Region Men's Head Coach of the Year, while Blaine Wiley was named the South Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.
The four regional honors were the most for the Crimson Tide in a single season.
Head Coach Dan Waters Said
"Tamara and Robert have done an amazing job this season and are very deserving of these latest honors. I can't wait to see what they bring to the track next week in Eugene. Coach Wiley and our entire staff have done a super job this year and the results speak for themselves. This has been a special group and a special season for us and I'm really looking forward to next week's NCAA Championships."
Alabama in the South Region Outdoor Awards
- Tamara Clark is the first Crimson Tide woman to earn outdoor South Region "of the Year" honors
- Robert Dunning is the second male Alabama track student-athlete to earn outdoor South Region "of the Year" recognition, following NCAA and Olympic champion Kirani James in 2011
- This is Dan Waters' second outdoor regional head coaching honor after also earning the recognition in 2017
- Waters was honored as the Indoor South Region Head Coach of the Year in 2017 and 2018
- Blaine Wiley is the fourth Alabama assistant coach to earn outdoor South Region honors and the second to earn the women's honor
