Alabama Rowing Finishes Second at Big 12 Championships, Medals in All Four Races

Five Crimson Tide rowers earn All-Big 12 accolades
AUSTIN, Texas – For the second-straight season, Alabama rowing placed second at the Big 12 Championships, medaling in all four races Saturday morning on Decker Lake.
The Crimson Tide earned 141 points for a second-place finish, only trailing Texas' 167 as the Longhorns earned the league's automatic qualifying bid for the NCAA Championships. Tennessee (3rd – 133) was the only other team to finish above the 100-point mark.
Alabama medaled in all four races, placing second in the First Varsity 8+, First Varsity 4+ and Second Varsity 4+ and third in the Second Varsity 8+. The Tide's Brittany Hill, Claudia Mecchia, Rebekah Stewart, Darcy Jennings and Izzie Gonzales earned All-Big 12 accolades.
Alabama started the day with a second-place finish in the First Varsity 8+ (6:56.907) as one of only two teams to cross the line in under seven minutes. The Tide's Second Varsity 8+ took home the team's second medal of the day, finishing third in 7:15.364. Alabama's 4+ boats each brought silver medals home, with the 1V4+ finishing in 8:06.949 and the 2V4+ using a second-half push to move past Tennessee and cross the line in 7:55.061.
Alabama now awaits the announcement of the NCAA Tournament field on Tuesday, May 18.

"It was a great morning for the Crimson Tide! All our crews raced with great energy and technical execution and the results followed. We have just completed the most challenging schedule in the country and demonstrated that we belong among the top teams in the country. We now wait for NCAA selection on Tuesday to see who we are racing next. Texas is a very good team and deserving of their high ranking. The University of Texas and Big 12 hosted a great event."
