Alabama Rowing Returns to Austin for Big 12 Championships, Events Moved to Saturday Due to Inclement Weather

Racing will now begin at 8:15 a.m. CT on Saturday, May 15
AUSTIN, Texas – Inclement weather has forced a late change in the schedule for the Big 12 Rowing Championships. Alabama will now take the water on Decker Lake in Austin, Texas on Saturday, May 15.
The 13th-ranked Crimson Tide will begin competition at 8:15 a.m. CT with the First Varsity 8+ followed by the Second Varsity 8+ at 8:30, First Varsity 4+ at 8:45 and Second Varsity 4+ at 9.
At the last Big 12 Championships in 2019, Alabama posted a program-best second place finish in head coach Glenn Putyrae's first season at the helm of the Tide. Alabama medaled in five races, including a silver medal finish for the Third Varsity 8+. Four rowers earned All-Big 12 accolades and Putyrae was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year.

- Facing tough conditions on the water, Alabama rowing powered through to qualify for the A finals in each of its five races at the Longhorn Invitational
- In the preliminary sessions, the Crimson Tide finished second or better in all five of its races to earn a spot in the A finals of each
- The wind speed picked up considerably between the qualifying and final sessions, from 7 mph to over 15 mph
- Alabama's highest finish in the finals came in the First Varsity 4+, as the crew finished second in 7:11.315
SCOUTING ALABAMA
- This weekend marks the seventh event of the spring for Alabama
- The Crimson Tide is ranked No. 13 in this week's Division I Pocock CRCA Rankings, appearing in every coaches' poll this season
- Head Coach Glenn Putyrae is in his third season at the helm of the Crimson Tide, leading the team to a program-best second place finish at the Big 12 Championships in his first season in 2019, earning Big 12 Coach of the Year honors
