
Alabama Track and Field Returns to Baton Rouge to Close Out the Outdoor Regular-Season Slate

The LSU Invitational will be the Crimson Tide’s final regular-season outdoor meet of 2021
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's and women's track and field teams close the outdoor regular season this weekend at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, La. The teams will compete on Saturday at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
Meet Schedule
- Crimson Tide competition begins with Taylor Gorum and Nickolette Dunbar in the women's discus at 10 a.m. CT
- UA's running events start at 12:40 p.m. CT with Allison Wilson in the women's 1,500 meters
- The meet will conclude after the men's 4x400-meter relay which is set to begin at 3:50 p.m. CT
National Rankings
- The Alabama women are ranked sixth and the men are ninth nationally according to the USTFCCCA National TFRI: Track and Field Rating Index as of April 26
- Sprinter Tamara Clark holds the best time in the nation when it comes to the women's 100 meters after running a school-record 10.96 at last weekend's LSU Alumni Gold
- Distance ace Mercy Chelangat secured the best time in the nation in the women's 5,000 with a school-record time of 15:17.79 at last weekend's John McDonnell Invitational
- Clark and Chelangat also hold second-best national times in the 200 meters (22.50) and 10,000 meters (32:31.43), respectively
- Freshman Eliud Kipsang held onto his top mark in the men's 1,500-meter run with a PR of 3:36.00 at the Crimson Tide Invitational earlier this month
- Robert Dunning recorded the second-best time in the nation last weekend at the LSU Alumni Gold with a school-record 13.28 in the 110-meter hurdles
Last Time Out
- The Alabama squad split last weekend, sending some to the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and others to the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge, La.
- Mercy Chelangat shattered the Alabama program record in the women's 5,000 meters at the John McDonnell Invitational with her personal-best time of 15:17.79
- Sophomore Amaris Tyynismaa also bettered the previous school record in the 5,000 meters, posting a 15:33.52 to rank second all-time at Alabama
- At LSU Alumni Gold, sprinter Tamara Clark recorded a time of 10.96 in the women's 100-meter dash to give her the top spot in the Alabama record books
- Robert Dunning broke the Alabama school record in the men's 110-meter hurdles with his time of 13.28 and secured the fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.45
Spectator attendance for the LSU Invitational is limited to 2,800 people on a first come, first serve basis. Fans will be required to wear a face mask upon entry to the Bernie Moore Track Stadium. Hand sanitizer stations will be located around the facility for spectator use.
